1App Overview

GutMind is a nutrition analysis application designed to help users improve dietary balance and gut-friendly eating habits through structured food logging and AI-assisted insights.

Core features include:

GutMind provides educational nutrition information based on established dietary guidelines. It does not provide medical diagnosis, medical treatment, or medical advice.

2Nutritional Data Sources

Food nutritional values are derived from recognized public databases and scientific guidelines, including:

These sources provide standardized data for: Calories, Macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein, fats), Dietary fiber, and Selected micronutrients.

3Calorie & Macronutrient Calculation Method

Macronutrient energy values follow internationally accepted nutritional science standards:

Total Calories = (Protein × 4) + (Carbohydrates × 4) + (Fat × 9)
Macronutrient % = (Macronutrient Calories ÷ Total Calories) × 100

These calculations are used for visualization and balance analysis only.

4Energy Metabolism Model (TDEE)

GutMind utilizes the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), a clinically validated standard.

Male: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) - 5 × age + 5
Female: BMR = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) - 5 × age - 161

Minimum Safety Floor: 1200 kcal (Male) / 1000 kcal (Female)

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) adjusted by Activity Factor:

Calorie Goal Setting:

  • Weight Loss: TDEE - [M: 500 / F: 450] kcal
  • Weight Gain: TDEE + [M: 300 / F: 200] kcal

5GutMind Nutrition Grade System (S / A / B / C)

GutMind evaluates each logged food using a structured scoring model that analyzes nutritional balance and gut-supportive characteristics. Each food is first assigned a numeric internal score (0–100), then converted into one of four grades:

Numeric Score Range Grade
85–100 S
70–84 A
50–69 B
0–49 C

The letter grade provides a simplified summary of overall nutritional balance and gut-friendliness.

6Evaluation Criteria for Nutrition Grade

The internal scoring model considers:

  • Macronutrient Balance: Appropriate protein level, Balanced fat intake, Presence of complex carbohydrates
  • Fiber Content: Adequate dietary fiber presence, Support for gut microbiota diversity
  • Fat Quality: Saturated fat levels, Overall fat density
  • Micronutrient Density: Presence of iron, magnesium, potassium, etc.
  • Processing Level: Degree of refinement or ultra-processing

The scoring model is informed by WHO dietary fat and sugar guidelines, USDA nutrition recommendations, and Harvard public health nutrition research.

7Insight & Suggestion Generation

GutMind uses AI-assisted text generation to provide meal insights, nutritional observations, and gut-friendly tips.

Insights are generated based on structured rule detection, such as:

Suggestions aim to encourage balanced dietary patterns consistent with public health nutrition guidance. All recommendations are educational and informational in nature.
