GutMind ("we," "us," or "our") values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the GutMind app. By using the App, you agree to these practices.
2. Information We Collect & Where It Stays
We prioritize data minimization and local processing to ensure maximum privacy:
- Local Personal Metrics: Your age, height, current weight, target weight, pronouns, and food allergies are stored exclusively on your device and synced via your private Apple iCloud.
- Purpose of Use: These metrics are used strictly for calculating your daily energy expenditure (TDEE), recommended water intake, and providing allergy alerts. This data is used solely to enhance your personalized user experience.
- Privacy Guarantee: We do not upload this sensitive information to our own servers, nor do we share it with any third-party AI providers. It remains under your control at all times.
3. AI Processing & Third-Party Disclosure
To provide advanced food recognition and nutritional analysis, GutMind utilizes a customized AI module powered by Google's Gemini API.
- Scope of AI: Our AI is strictly constrained via system instructions to only process food-related data. It is programmed to ignore and not store any non-dietary information.
- Data Minimization: When you scan a meal, only the image or text description is transmitted to the AI engine. No personal identifiers (like your name, weight, or height) are ever sent to the AI provider.
- Non-Training Commitment: We have configured our integration so that your data is NOT used to train or improve the underlying foundation models of the third-party provider.
- User Control (The AI Toggle): You have full control. You can disable AI features at any time via Settings → GutMind AI Toggle. Once disabled, no data will be sent to the AI service provider, and you can continue to use the app via manual entry.
4. How We Use Information
- To identify food items and calculate calories/macronutrients.
- To provide personalized nutritional insights based on your locally stored metrics.
- To sync your history across your own devices via iCloud.
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
5. Data Sharing & Security
Your data stays within a secure loop:
- Apple iCloud: For encrypted syncing across your devices.
- GutMind AI (via Google API): For encrypted, transient analysis of food data only.
- Internal Security: All transmissions are encrypted via industry-standard protocols (SSL/TLS).
6. Your Rights
- Access & Deletion: You can view, edit, or delete your dietary records at any time within the app.
- Withdrawal of Consent: You can opt-out of AI processing or stop using the app at any time.
- Data Portability: You can export your logged data from the app settings.
7. Children's Privacy
GutMind is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
